Fernando Micheli

About the Artist

Born in the rural town of Fiano, near Lucca, Italy. Fernando immigrated and was raised in San Francisco, CA. With a short hiatus studying and traveling in Northern Italy in his late teens, Fernando returned home to the Bay Area to obtain his B.A. at U.C. Berkeley, College of Environmental Design and practiced Landscape Architecture and Urban Design for 37 years, working on many prominent projects such as the Getty Museum, USC campus and Plays Vista.

After retirement in 2014, wanting to selfishly pursue the notion of creating for his own fulfillment and joy, he pursued his desire to become a painter and artist. He focuses on the immediacy of Plein Air painting and Representational art, capturing the beauty around him, but is endlessly curious about the next challenge that will propel his desire to see and understand the world in a more intense way.

He is a Signature Member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and member of the American Impressionist Society and California Art Club. He’s participated in the 23rd Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational LPAPA. He’s received some nice honors/awards for his work, but his main preoccupation is to realize his main mission of bettering his art through the continued work and dedication to his craft.

He has been a regular exhibitor at the Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival since 2015 and maintains a Gallery/studio in Laguna Beach, California.
