Cliff Wassmann

About the Artist

A third-generation painter, Wassmann grew up in a household filled with books on art and history. Of course, his favorites were those with illustrations of the ancient world, including the noted paleo artist Zdenek Burian as well as Charles R. Knight, who painted the murals at the American Museum of Natural History, of which Wassmann was a frequent visitor. This formed an interest in both paleo art and classic landscape painting. After High School, Wassmann attended the nation’s oldest art school, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

At the New York Art Expo of 2007, his work was noticed by Lucasfilm’s art licensee, Acme Archives, which went on to publish his work for sale at Comic Con and Star Wars events. His work depicted scenes that could have been in the movie but weren’t, and had to adhere to Star Wars canon. His new parody series mixing Star Wars imagery in current settings is an original take. A farcical interpretation of how movies and popular culture have invaded the art world.

Sold and collected world-wide. His latest theme is mixing time periods and and blending the familiar with the fantastic in a whimsical mash-up of classical realism and contemporary culture.
